The Old Still is said to have been built in the early 30s by enterprising locals. Throughout the Prohibition Era, highly organized operators clandestinely imported quantities of liquor on the Oregon coast. Little Whale Cove was one of the more active sites chosen, chiefly because of its isolation and proximity to Portland. Surplus alcohol was stored in one of three cabins situated just south of Little Whale Cove's present entrance, built for the crews who constructed the Coast Highway in the mid-20s.
